It is to be recalled that officials of the two security outfits engaged in a gun duel in Dogonyaro area of Bauchi.
The Bauchi Police spokesperson, Hassan Mohammed, confirmed the clash, but said the police were still interviewing the people involved with a view to getting the cause of the clash.
When Mr. Mohammed was eventually reached again on Friday morning after repeated calls on Thursday, he declined to comment on the likely casualty and actual cause of the clash.
Mr. Mohammed’s explanation was that the fight was a result of a small misunderstanding between the soldiers and the policemen.
“They just had a minor disagreement between themselves at their place of assignment and everything was resolved instantly, it’s hard to understand why people are making a big deal out it all. There is a great synergy between the Police and the Nigerian Army.”
According to a witness, the police officers were at a checkpoint in Dogonyaro when some soldiers in a military pickup van approached and asked the police officers to make way for them. The police officers reportedly declined resulting into arguments and fights with gunshots fired at random by the security officials.
Calm has, however, returned to the area of the incident in Bauchi, the witness said.
